Christchurch becoming carbon neutral by 2050: Carbon neutrality should be the goal of every city on the planet. New need to bring back commuter rail and encourage electric and bio-fuel vehicles. Lobby government to tax engine size.
View on climate smart strategy: The climate smart strategy is a fantastic initiative which is out of reach of the current hamstrung and less than courageous council.
How can CCC encourage reductions in GHG emissions?: Implement efficient commuter rail.
Should we join C40 cities?: C40 Cities is a global initiative with an amazing vision for the world. I definitely would support Christchurch in becoming an innovator city.
|Transport||Does active transport need to be prioritised in Christchurch?: Yes active transport should be prioritised. Have beautiful and safe walkways. If not entirely then in conjunction with collaborative consumption and multi modal transport models. Eg - Train/Bus to bike/walk lanes
Does public transport need to be improved in Christchurch?: Of course, Christchurch is lagging behind most developed cities now. More of a hub and spoke model utilising the existing rail network in conjunction with the buses. Get the trams running a more effective circuit around the city that is functional and affordable for the locals to use.
Do the number of trips made by private vehicles need to be actively reduced?: Collaborative consumption. Car pooling, busing, training. Alternatively walking, cycling.
Thoughts on re-introducing electric buses to Christchurch?: Electric buses would be amazing to have back in Christchurch!
View on encouraging the uptake of electric vehicles in Christchurch?: Start requiring paid permits to access the city in normal vehicles. Free parking for registered bonafide electric vehicles.
|Building regulations / urban planning||Reducing lifetime energy costs of buildings: Wants to utilize building efficiency ratings system. Have a substantial amount of solar requirement with lower voltage LED lighting and greenery areas.
Urban densification: Supports micro communities believes these can be energy efficient as well as safe, homely and beautiful
Introduction of minimum green star standards: Supports ratings, but no details
|Natural Hazards||Responding to sea level rise: Wants to look at mitigation measures through lowered carbon emissions with options for relocating people
Rezoning land at risk of sea level rise: Wishes to identify the most vulnerable areas and do computer modeling with ample room for tidal corrections and zone accordingly
